About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and execute policy positions and advocacy initiatives using a consensus approach
- Drive a high-visibility policy portfolio covering pharmaceutical and medical device public policy issues
- Track, analyze, and drive strategy on state legislation in assigned issue areas
- Partner with J&J stakeholders on implementation of enacted state policy changes
- Lead or support trade association engagement and coordination
- Plan, develop, prepare, and submit written comments and testimony
- Build, sustain, and leverage relationships with outside stakeholder entities
- Provide subject matter expertise and recommendations to J&J business partners
- Monitor and participate in government and stakeholder meetings, official proceedings, and related activities
- Develop advocacy materials and represent J&J at external venues, conferences, and events
- Support thought leadership and coordinate policy research with internal partners
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree required
- A minimum of 10 years of related professional experience required
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of US public policy development, including regulatory and legislative processes
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex health care regulations and policies, develop and assess policy options, and prepare comments on complex healthcare rulemakings and proceedings
- Ability to engage in high-level strategic and analytical thinking
- Working knowledge of relevant information and data sources and skill in using data to inform policy positions and advocacy strategy
- Demonstrated internal and external leadership skills and gravitas, with the ability to work proactively and independently
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, industry personnel, subject matter experts, government affairs staff, and high-level executives
- Excellent oral communication, written communication, and presentation skills, especially persuasive writing
- Demonstrated commitment to learning emerging technologies, such as AI, through exploration, iteration, and applying new tools over time
- MHS/MA/MS or higher with health policy focus strongly preferred
