About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) Compliance Monitoring Programs to build a proactive safety culture
- Support all aspects of the EHS Management System at the Santa Clara site and other J&J locations in California
- Serve as an influential member of leadership teams and promote cross-site initiatives, teamwork, and collaboration
- Ensure a high level of EHS performance for the site
- Provide technical expertise for ergonomics, contractor safety, machine safety, risk assessment, management of change, lock out tag out, fall prevention, and emergency preparedness
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations and J&J EHS Standards
- Partner with local management to develop and implement a site CAPA process
- Bring global best practices into the site and share site perspective, knowledge, and lessons learned globally
- Set and monitor goals, objectives, and assignments; coach site functional leaders using dashboards and reports
- Review, update, and develop EHS programs including IIPP, HMBP, HAZCOM, EAP, SOPs, LOTO/HECP, confined space, fire prevention, biosafety, lab safety, hot works, radiation/laser safety, warehouse safety, and chemical inventory programs
- Perform risk assessments, machine safety risk assessments, and job safety analyses
- Analyze and report violations or potential violations to enforcement agencies and J&J corporate offices
- Conduct routine EHS assessments, program reviews, assurance audits, and self-assessments
- Lead incident investigations for reported injuries, including First Aid and Good Saves
- Host internal and external inspectors and auditors
- Respond to external complaints and inquiries
- Correspond with regulatory agencies regarding required permits
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum Bachelor’s or equivalent university degree required
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience with strong Occupational Safety expertise
- EHS experience with emphasis on Machine Safety, Permit to Work, Lock Out Tag Out and Management of Change
- Experience identifying, evaluating, and controlling EHS risks in the workplace
- Ability to collaborate with local EHS professionals and support additional multi-site EHS resources
- Proficient in MS SharePoint and MS Office software programs
- Ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action
- Ability and willingness to travel to other locations
- Up to 10% domestic travel
- Manufacturing/R&D experience in a highly regulated environment preferred
- Relevant consulting experience considered
- Certifications in CMSE, CIH, CHMM, CSP, and/or ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor preferred
- Technical experience in air, water, hazardous and medical waste, machine safety, and/or chemical handling preferred
- Experience with ISO 14001/ISO 45001 EHS Management Systems and Certification preferred
- Demonstrated project management skills preferred
