About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead engineering delivery of reusable GenAI applications and scientific workflows across R&D
  • Translate product priorities into application designs, delivery plans, and maintainable releases
  • Provide technical leadership and coaching while partnering with platform, innovation, data, AI operations, safety, evaluation, and business teams
  • Own integrated application delivery plans, including milestones, engineering capacity, dependencies, and release risks
  • Translate validated user stories into technical designs and work packages
  • Define application interfaces and document architecture decisions
  • Guide evidence-grounded generation, retrieval, and agent workflow implementation
  • Evaluate build-versus-buy options based on quality, integration effort, maintainability, and cost
  • Establish code review, automated testing, and application release practices
  • Incorporate evaluation standards, access controls, traceability, and human-review requirements
  • Coordinate application integration with approved data products and vendor services
  • Define handoffs for deployment, monitoring, incident response, and ongoing support
  • Mentor scientists and engineers, review technical work, and coordinate employees, contractors, and federated contributors
  • Communicate delivery tradeoffs and capacity constraints to leadership
  • Propose scope sequencing when demand exceeds available resources

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's degree in AI/ML, Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related field
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in AI/GenAI Science/Engineering
  • Experience delivering production software or AI applications and leading complex technical work across multiple contributors
  • Strong AI/GenAI science fundamentals, including Python or a comparable language, APIs, version control, testing, and cloud application delivery
  • Practical understanding of large language models, RAGs, evaluation, and limitations of agentic workflows
  • Ability to reason about data access, security, reliability, and maintainability
  • Experience partnering with specialists for implementation
  • Evidence of effective technical mentoring, stakeholder communication, and prioritization under competing demands
