About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Function within an operational unit as a Behavioral Health Care Provider
  • Integrate the physical, mental and psychological wellness of service members and their families
  • Apply social work procedures and techniques, including interviewing, behavioral assessment, and evidence-based therapies
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat psychological and neuropsychological disorders
  • Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy
  • Provide couples therapy
  • Conduct alcohol and drug treatment evaluations
  • Engage in quality improvement and staff meetings and conferences
  • Conduct applied research and clinical investigations in clinical, behavioral health, and organizational social work
  • Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders, and school districts as required
  • Maintain accurate medical records and produce evaluation and treatment reports
  • Participate in military-specific training
  • Potentially supervise unlicensed providers or trainees
  • Contact referred patients to assess treatment adherence
  • Use validated symptom inventories to assess symptom severity
  • Assess barriers to treatment adherence and help patients problem-solve solutions
  • Educate patients about mental health conditions and treatment regimens
  • Maintain patient information in a patient registry
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records for review by the managing physician
  • Staff difficult cases with referring providers, behavioral health consultants, and/or psychiatry consultants
  • Perform case management functions
  • Perform other assignments and duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one
  • Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) or equivalent (MSSW, MSSA) degree from a graduate school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  • Current, unrestricted clinical license to independently practice social work in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Maintain credentialing requirements in good standing at a local MTF
  • Minimum of two (2) years peer-reviewable clinical social work experience in a mental health setting
  • Working knowledge of professional standards and ethics regarding delivery of clinical social work services
  • Experience in brief behavioral interventions
  • May be required to receive and maintain clinical practice privileges
  • Prior military and/or SOF experience highly desired
  • Experience working in a Government setting such as a DOD or Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) MTF
  • Compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan, policies and procedures
  • Compliance with Quality Assurance plan, policies and procedures
  • Regular and acceptable attendance
  • Completion of all required training
