About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide virtual class coverage across grade levels and content areas when teachers or staff are absent
- Internalize, adapt, and deliver standards-aligned lessons, materials, and assignments
- Maintain classroom routines, schoolwide expectations, pacing, and student accountability
- Launch and manage virtual class meetings, including admitting students, monitoring participation, chat, screen sharing, and breakout rooms
- Use split-screen and multi-window workflows to present content, monitor participation, review work, communicate, and access instructional platforms
- Monitor student engagement and device activity using approved systems such as GoGuardian
- Take and communicate attendance and participation information
- Provide handoff information to returning teachers
- Troubleshoot and escalate student technology and access issues
- Provide small-group instruction, intervention, reteaching, skill practice, and academic support
- Provide one-to-one support for academic tasks, organization, executive functioning, technology navigation, assignment completion, and re-engagement
- Support students using Google Classroom, instructional materials, assignments, calendars, links, and digital resources
- Reinforce virtual-learning expectations and support completion of required learning artifacts
- Help students prioritize and complete missing or incomplete work without doing the work for them
- Collect and communicate student progress, engagement, and intervention information
- Conduct attendance outreach through phone calls, messages, and follow-up
- Partner with families to address barriers to virtual attendance and engagement
- Document attendance and student/family communication in school systems
- Follow up with absent, late, disengaged, or technologically challenged students
- Support re-entry and re-engagement after absences or technology interruptions
- Build relationships with students, families, teachers, and teammates
- Establish a warm, structured virtual presence and uphold consistent expectations
- Use proactive redirection and virtual de-escalation strategies
- Maintain confidentiality and model professional digital communication
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, planning meetings, coaching, and feedback sessions
- Implement feedback and adjust practice to student and school needs
- Work from the designated office/workspace two days per week and remotely on remaining scheduled workdays
- Support field trips, in-person student and family events, testing, celebrations, open houses, and other schoolwide programming
- Assist with preparation, supervision, student support, logistics, and transitions during in-person programming
- Complete other instructional and operational responsibilities for Innovate Virtual Academy
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED
- Commitment to working with students from communities with limited access to high-quality educational opportunities
- Knowledge of and ability to support reading, writing, and mathematics instruction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively in a virtual environment
- Flexibility to shift between substitute coverage, small-group instruction, one-to-one support, attendance outreach, and operational needs
- Proficiency with Google Workspace/Google Suite, including Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, Drive, Calendar, and Gmail
- Proficiency with Google Classroom
- Proficiency with Zoom and/or comparable virtual-meeting platforms
- Ability to use split screens, multiple browser windows/tabs, and multiple digital platforms simultaneously
- Working knowledge of GoGuardian or comparable student monitoring systems
- Ability to monitor student cameras, chat, participation, instructional content, and student work simultaneously
- Ability to troubleshoot common login, link, permission, audio/video, browser, Google Classroom, and student-facing technology issues
- Ability to learn new technology systems quickly and follow digital privacy, student data, and responsible technology expectations
- Reliable internet connectivity and an appropriate professional workspace for virtual workdays
- Strong organization, time management, follow-through, and ability to work independently
- Ability to remain at a computer workstation and monitor virtual instruction for extended periods
- Ability to participate in required in-person activities, including field trips, testing, student events, and community events
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree
- Preferred: Previous experience as an In House Substitute, substitute teacher, instructional aide, interventionist, or similar student-support role
- Preferred: Experience in virtual, blended, technology-rich, or urban K-12 public school settings
- Preferred: Experience with GoGuardian, Google Classroom, Google Workspace, Zoom, and other educational technology platforms
