About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Partner with the Principal Researcher on at least one research project, including user interviews, usability tests, and surveys
Turn research findings into insights that shape product decisions
Collaborate with engineers and a product manager to design and ship at least one feature tested live on Kiva.org
Design flows and wireframes from early stages through launch
Build interactive prototypes in Figma
Test ideas with users and communicate designs to the team
Contribute at least one new component or primitive to Kiva’s design system with design and engineering leads
Share work in weekly design critiques and explain design decisions to designers and non-designers

Requirements

What you’ll need

United States-based and authorized to work in the United States on a permanent, full-time basis
Kiva cannot provide visa sponsorship
At least 21 years of age or older by January 12, 2027
Able to commit to the full 6-month term
Strong UX writing skills
Systems thinking and ability to design reusable components
Visual and interaction design skills
Comfortable working on macOS
Proficiency with Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud
Ability to use AI design tools such as Figma Make, Claude, and ChatGPT
Able to track projects from handoff to completion
Able to meet deadlines and explain design decisions to non-designers
Exceptional communication and ability to articulate design rationale
Willingness to work in an iterative, collaborative process
Availability for 24–32 hours per week from January 12, 2027 through June 30, 2027
