About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish the inaugural Northern California knownwell site in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Use credentials to support applications and participation in local Clinically Integrated Networks and strategic partnerships
  • Partner with recruiting and leadership to source, interview, and select the inaugural San Francisco care team
  • Provide clinical input on site readiness, staffing plans, and market-specific operational needs
  • Build relationships with local healthcare providers, health systems, community partners, and referral networks
  • Represent knownwell as an early clinical voice for the San Francisco market
  • Transition to full-time clinical practice before clinic opening, anticipated Q4 2027
  • Provide clinical oversight and mentorship to APCs under California collaborating physician requirements
  • See adult patients in person and virtually for primary care, metabolic health, obesity, and obesity-related conditions
  • Perform virtual examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning using audio and visual technology
  • Coordinate with physicians, APCs, registered dietitians, nurses, medical assistants, health coaches, and other care team members
  • Liaise with healthcare organizations and insurance companies
  • Document care for accurate billing, including review of remote patient monitoring data
  • Respond to pre-screened patient questions through the patient portal
  • Escalate concerns to the leadership team
  • Maintain licensure and appropriate re-certifications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required from an accredited medical school
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice in California, or willingness to obtain
  • Willingness to obtain additional licensure if needed based upon business needs
  • Board certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine
  • Certification with the American Board of Obesity Medicine highly preferred, but not required
  • Valid DEA required with no restrictions and prescribing authority
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years of in-person clinical experience in an ambulatory care setting, family or internal medicine
  • Experience in chronic condition management and weight management preferred
  • If no formal training in weight management, willingness to participate in knownwell clinical education and training plan and/or pursue ABOM certification
  • Willingness to supervise Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) as necessary and appropriate
  • Ability to abide by California-specific rules and regulations as a collaborating physician
  • Experience or interest in market development, credentialing, network-building, and community/CIN partnerships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to staying current with primary care and obesity medicine developments
  • Belief in inclusive, compassionate care and shared decision-making
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to make patients feel at ease
  • Willingness to try patient- and clinician-oriented technologies
  • Ability to work with a collaborative multidisciplinary team
  • Access to high-speed internet and phone lines
