About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, and optimize Burrow’s distributed query execution, indexing, and storage layers
  • Design query APIs, semantic layers, and serving patterns for AI products and agents
  • Build high-performance data processing and serving systems for large-scale healthcare datasets using Rust, SQL, Python, DuckDB, or Spark
  • Expand Burrow to support provider data and new query types
  • Partner with upstream data engineering, product, platform, data science, quality, application, and Labs@Komodo teams
  • Lead complex, multi-quarter initiatives and make trade-offs across performance, scalability, cost, reliability, and delivery
  • Implement data quality checks, validation, observability, lineage, monitoring, and alerting
  • Improve engine latency, throughput, query cost, reliability, failure handling, and operational readiness
  • Lead migration of legacy query workloads onto Burrow without customer disruption
  • Mentor engineers and raise standards for system design, code quality, testing, CI/CD, documentation, and AI-augmented workflows

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience writing high-performance systems code in Rust, Erlang, or C++
  • End-to-end ownership of services, including production operations
  • Deep knowledge of analytical engine internals, including Parquet, Arrow, indexing, pruning, compression, compaction, query planning, and execution
  • Experience building on or extending Pinot, Druid, ClickHouse, DuckDB, DataFusion, or Trino
  • Ability to design data models, serving patterns, platform components, and architectures for complex, high-volume data environments
  • Track record of setting technical direction across teams and driving multi-quarter architecture decisions
  • Experience building query or serving infrastructure consumed by AI/ML systems, LLM-driven products, or high-volume real-time traffic
  • Experience profiling and tuning distributed systems across memory, CPU, I/O, NVMe, caching, partitioning, and failure handling
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to technical and senior stakeholders
  • Hands-on use of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, or Claude
  • Healthcare data experience, warehouse migrations, high-scale data architecture, applied AI workflows, and fast-growth execution are nice to have
