About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, write, and edit technical documentation, including API docs, developer guides, reference documentation, and release notes
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other documentation writers to gather information and ensure documentation accuracy and completeness
- Research technical information by interacting with subject matter experts, analyzing product specifications, and testing software
- Test documentation content and software features to validate accuracy
- Use CLI tools to test and document software features
- Manage and maintain existing documentation through updates, revisions, and deprecation of outdated content
- Implement and improve documentation processes and standards, including document management and Git-based version control
- Review documentation for technical accuracy and adherence to established guidelines
- Contribute to project planning and management for documentation deliverables
- Participate in product management discussions to align documentation with product strategy
- Own documentation strategy for a specific product area, prioritizing work based on adoption, support burden, user behavior, support tickets, and adoption data
- Partner with product and field teams to identify documentation gaps and propose content investments
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of experience in technical writing within a software development environment
- Proven expertise in software documentation, including API documentation and developer guides
- Understanding of API testing and experience with relevant tools
- Proficiency with Command Line Interface (CLI)
- Experience or an interest in AI
- Solid experience with Git for version control and collaboration
- Demonstrated ability to perform thorough research and synthesize complex technical information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
- Experience with documentation maintenance, document management, and document reviewing processes
- Experience treating a documentation area like a product, setting priorities based on user impact and adoption
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
