About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the technical approach for backend APIs, frontend applications, and cloud infrastructure
- Ensure code meets PWS quality standards, including 90% test coverage, zero linting errors, and zero medium/high security vulnerabilities
- Oversee integration with USDA mission systems via well-defined APIs
- Guide technology decisions using approved tools such as Python, Ruby, JavaScript, and React on cloud.gov infrastructure
- Ensure systems comply with Zero Trust Architecture (NIST SP 800-207), FIPS 140-2 encryption, and OWASP security standards
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and CircleCI
- Support system documentation, hand-off planning, and contract transition requirements
- Ensure API response times meet performance standards, including CatEx triage under one second
- Collaborate daily with the Product Owner, Facilitator, and design team
- Support a federal client on a business and IT modernization project for the USDA ERAS Platform
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field required
- Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience
- At least 3 years in a technical lead or senior engineering role
- Experience leading development teams on federal government IT projects
- Strong software engineering background with full-stack experience
- Experience with cloud-hosted federal systems; cloud.gov preferred
- Knowledge of agile development practices
- Familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, and federal security standards
- Experience with microservices architecture and API development
- Demonstrated experience with cloud-native application development and deployment
- Experience with agile/scrum methodologies on large-scale software projects
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust
- Master's degree preferred
- Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional, or equivalent federal cloud certifications are a plus
- Experience with Salesforce development is a plus
