About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and build RESTful Node APIs, React frontends, and/or React Native mobile apps
  • Regularly release working software using trunk-based development, automated test suites, and infrastructure-as-code principles
  • Incorporate performance, resilience, observability, maintainability, security, and accessibility requirements
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and build effective working relationships
  • Establish a shared understanding of user needs and Kooth’s commercial and operational goals
  • Deepen knowledge of software engineering industry trends and best practices through pair/mob programming and knowledge sharing
  • Shadow the out-of-hours on-call response rota

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Enthusiasm for software engineering across the whole stack
  • Strong problem-solving attitude and willingness to contribute to technical decisions
  • Some knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript
  • Knowledge of database technologies such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience delivering a web or native mobile application
  • Quality mindset and understanding of maintainable, well-tested code
  • Pragmatic delivery and ability to take appropriate ownership
  • Understanding of agile processes, data-informed development, and reliability
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build colleague relationships across disciplines
  • Web or mobile application development experience using React or React Native (nice to have)
  • Experience with trunk-based development, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code (nice to have)
  • Awareness and curiosity about application design and architecture patterns (nice to have)
  • Experience in a cloud-native environment such as GCP or AWS with Kubernetes (nice to have)
  • Successful completion of a DBS check
