About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Augment Payward’s Labor & Employment legal team as the EU and UK subject matter expert
  • Provide local-law employment advice in European time zones and support MENA and APAC matters with local counsel
  • Own recurring EU and UK employment matters, including worker classification, separations, employee relations, executive compensation, and wage-and-hour issues
  • Advise executive leadership, employment counsel, and the Payward Experience team
  • Develop works council, collective consultation, pay transparency, and employee representative processes
  • Support restructurings, acquisitions, M&A due diligence, and post-closing European workforce integration
  • Create and localize employment policies and procedures and deliver related training
  • Advise on GDPR, UK GDPR, and cross-border HR and recruiting data transfers
  • Support workplace investigations involving whistleblower, discrimination, and performance issues
  • Advise on European expansion, EOR, direct employment, entity decisions, global mobility, and contingent workforce matters
  • Advise on trade secrets and restrictive covenants in the EU and UK
  • Manage local outside counsel on legal opinions and pre-litigation matters
  • Monitor global labor and employment trends, including crypto-industry developments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • EU- or UK-qualified attorney working out of the EU or UK
  • 8+ years of legal experience advising in the EU, UK and other jurisdictions on employment, labor, and executive compensation issues
  • In-house and law firm experience with high-growth scaling and mature, large-enterprise environments
  • Broad international labor and employment background
  • Experience advising on works councils, collective consultation, and employee representative bodies in the EU and/or UK
  • Experience advising on employee and candidate data privacy issues under GDPR and UK GDPR
  • Hands-on proficiency using generative AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT in day-to-day legal work
  • Sound judgment verifying AI outputs against local law and protecting confidentiality, privilege, and personal data
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and opportunity-making attitude
  • Interest in the crypto industry (nice to have)
  • Experience in fintech, crypto, or regulated financial services (nice to have)
  • Experience with MENA and/or APAC employment markets (nice to have)
  • Experience with acquisition due diligence, transfer-of-undertakings rules, and post-closing workforce integration (nice to have)
