About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS and IBM MQ environments across development, test, and production systems
  • Administer MQ Queue Managers, Queue Sharing Groups, Sysplex environments, and Coupling Facility structures
  • Troubleshoot WAS and MQ issues, including JVM crashes, thread dumps, application failures, queue management, and performance bottlenecks
  • Monitor, tune, and optimize middleware infrastructure using OMEGAMON, RMF, MQ Explorer, Dynatrace, SYSVIEW, and BMC MainView
  • Design and implement MQ clustering, workload balancing, disaster recovery, backup, recovery, and business continuity solutions
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using wsadmin (Jython), REXX, and shell scripting
  • Implement and maintain security controls including SSL/TLS, JAAS, SAF integration, RACF policies, and MQ security best practices
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call support, major incident management, root cause analysis, documentation, and mentoring of junior administrators
  • Drive continuous service improvements and provide day-to-day solutions and security compliance for clients
  • Oversee assignment queues and work directly with technicians to prioritize tickets
  • Collaborate with IT professionals and clients on large-scale projects and modernization initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 6 to 10 years of experience in IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS (WASz) administration and IBM MQ support
  • Strong experience in installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IBM MQ environments
  • Hands-on expertise with Queue Sharing Groups (QSG) and Coupling Facility technologies
  • Experience with MQ Explorer, Tivoli Monitoring, OMEGAMON, SYSVIEW, BMC MainView, MQATTACH, and ICC
  • Strong understanding of MQ clustering, distributed integration, and workload balancing concepts
  • Knowledge of workload management (WLM), high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices
  • Experience in system backup, recovery, performance analysis, and root-cause troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of z/OS operating environments and middleware architecture
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • IBM Certified System Administrator – WebSphere Application Server for z/OS certification (preferred)
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise IBM Z environments with mission-critical workloads (preferred)
  • Experience with middleware upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives (preferred)
  • Exposure to CICS, Db2, IMS, and other IBM Z middleware technologies (preferred)
  • Experience working in global delivery and 24x7 support environments (preferred)
