About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Participate in the technical assessment of an estate of approximately 1,700 databases
  • Perform discovery, inventory, and characterization of database platforms
  • Analyze database versions, configurations, lifecycle status, and operational health
  • Identify risks and improvement opportunities related to performance, capacity, availability, backup and recovery, high availability and disaster recovery, security, monitoring, versions, obsolescence, and best-practice adherence
  • Analyze large volumes of data and identify patterns and trends
  • Define technical recommendations and action plans
  • Classify and prioritize databases based on risk, criticality, and remediation requirements
  • Participate in remediation, modernization, and rationalization initiatives
  • Perform advanced database administration and troubleshooting
  • Participate in upgrades, migrations, consolidations, and cross-platform database movements
  • Analyze complex performance and availability issues
  • Design and develop scripts to automate discovery, assessment, and administration processes
  • Contribute to standards and best practices
  • Prepare technical reports and executive presentations
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, cloud, and operations teams
  • Provide guidance and technical mentoring to junior team members

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of experience as a DBA, Database Consultant, or in a similar role
  • Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments
  • Experience managing and supporting large database estates
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or IBM Db2
  • Knowledge of other relational database platforms
  • Experience in database administration, performance tuning and troubleshooting, backup and recovery, high availability and disaster recovery, monitoring, capacity planning, security, patching and upgrades, migrations and consolidations, configuration analysis, and database lifecycle management
  • Experience with database discovery, assessment, health checks, large database inventory analysis, risk identification and classification, recommendation development, platform rationalization and consolidation, database modernization, and roadmap development valued
  • Experience with scripting and automation
  • SQL, T-SQL, or PL/SQL depending on the platform
  • PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python
  • Experience automating inventory, assessment, or database administration activities valued
  • Cloud database experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) considered an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication, organizational, and prioritization skills
  • Customer-focused approach
  • Ability to mentor and transfer knowledge to less experienced team members
