About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and maintain high-volume business logic running on mainframes
- Refactor legacy code so modern cloud and mobile applications can interact with mainframe core data
- Monitor architecture and identify opportunities to optimize code and maintain or enhance mainframe performance
- Debug, troubleshoot, and analyze complex system interactions
- Extract business logic from legacy systems for migration or integration with cloud-based services
- Collaborate with a global community of mainframe modernization experts
- Progress within the software engineering job family toward senior leadership roles
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5 to 14 years of experience working as a software engineer on complex software projects
- Excellent coding skills and solid development experience in Java, Python, .Net, or similar
- Debugging and problem-solving skills
- Experience developing scalable and robust software using software development methodologies
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, data mapping, XML/JSON, and REST-based web services
- Knowledge of microservices architecture, containers including Docker and Kubernetes, and messaging queues
- Deep understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns
- Key skills: Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, Lambda, AWS services including S3, SNS, SQS, RDS, Step Functions, NoSQL DB, Python, SQL/PL SQL, unit testing, JUnit, Terraform, Jira, and Agile Framework
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience (preferred)
- Certification in one or more hyperscalers: Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (preferred; certifications may be obtained with Kyndryl)
- Experience with DevOps tools and modern engineering practices (preferred)
