About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Engineer tools and workflows to analyze clinical genomic data and automate bioinformatics processes
- Develop web tools to visualize and interact with genomic data, including IGV-based or browser-native genomic viewers
- Contribute to observability, monitoring, alerting, and reliability improvements for lab-facing and bioinformatics production systems
- Identify and address software automation opportunities and scalability bottlenecks
- Deliver product features and improvements with minimal oversight
- Troubleshoot complex issues across interconnected systems
- Apply bioinformatics algorithms, statistical techniques, and engineering methodologies
- Collaborate with molecular biologists and laboratory stakeholders on assay development, workflows, and genomics applications
- Evaluate genomic and operational data quality and improve quality, consistency, and traceability
- Understand regulatory requirements for verification, validation, and documentation
- Produce technical writing for compliance-related and operational activities
- Balance feature development, operational support, incident response, and continuous improvement in a production environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's degree with 3 or more years of experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Engineering, OR Ph.D., OR Bachelor's degree with 6 or more years of experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Engineering
- 2 or more years of experience with short-read and long-read sequencing platforms like Illumina or PacBio
- 2 or more years of experience with bioinformatics algorithms and their application to genomic data analysis
- 2 or more years of experience with scalable bioinformatics infrastructure, including workflow orchestration like Docker, Nextflow, or GitHub Actions
- 2 or more years of experience with regulatory requirements, including CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA, for clinical genomics applications
- 1 or more years of experience with full-stack web development, including Django, Flask, or React
- 3 or more years of experience with Python, JavaScript, or Java
- 3 or more years of experience with command-line tooling and shell scripting in a UNIX/Linux environment
- 2 or more years of experience with SQL and NoSQL datastores like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or MongoDB
- 1 or more years of experience with version control, testing, code review, and documentation
- 1 or more years of experience with software production deployment practices and tooling like Docker, CI/CD, and GitHub Actions
- 1 or more years of experience using AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude
- 1 or more years of experience with interactive data visualization tools like Plotly
- 1 or more years of experience with observability and monitoring platforms like Grafana, Datadog, or PagerDuty
