About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Engineer tools and workflows to analyze clinical genomic data and automate bioinformatics processes
  • Develop web tools to visualize and interact with genomic data, including IGV-based or browser-native genomic viewers
  • Improve observability, monitoring, alerting, and reliability for laboratory-facing and bioinformatics production systems
  • Identify software automation opportunities and scalability bottlenecks
  • Deliver product features and improvements with minimal oversight
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across interconnected systems
  • Build well-tested, documented, maintainable, defect-free code
  • Apply bioinformatics algorithms, statistical techniques, and engineering methodologies
  • Collaborate with molecular biologists and laboratory stakeholders on assay development, workflows, and genomics applications
  • Evaluate genomic and operational data quality and improve quality, consistency, and traceability
  • Support regulatory verification, validation, and documentation activities
  • Balance feature development, operational support, incident response, and continuous improvement in a production environment
  • Partner with bioinformatics R&D, clinical lab analysts, and data analytics teams to build site-agnostic clinical workflow solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's degree with 3 or more years of experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Engineering, OR Ph.D., OR Bachelor's degree with 6 or more years of experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Engineering
  • 2 or more years of experience with short-read and long-read sequencing platforms such as Illumina or PacBio
  • 2 or more years of experience with bioinformatics algorithms and genomic data analysis
  • 2 or more years of experience with scalable bioinformatics infrastructure and workflow orchestration such as Docker, Nextflow, or GitHub Actions
  • 2 or more years of experience with regulatory requirements including CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA for clinical genomics applications
  • 1 or more years of experience with full-stack web development using Django, Flask, or React
  • 3 or more years of experience with Python, JavaScript, or Java
  • 3 or more years of experience with command-line tooling and shell scripting in UNIX/Linux
  • 2 or more years of experience with SQL and NoSQL datastores such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or MongoDB
  • 1 or more years of experience with version control, testing, code review, and documentation
  • 1 or more years of experience with software production deployment practices and tools such as Docker, CI/CD, and GitHub Actions
  • 1 or more years of experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude
  • 1 or more years of experience with interactive data visualization tools such as Plotly
