About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide information and counseling to employees regarding leave of absence and modified work schedule needs
  • Administer FMLA, CFRA, SDI, PFL, Paid Parental Leave and other state and federal leave processes across multiple states
  • Gather and complete paperwork, determine leave eligibility and designate qualifying FMLA leave
  • Coordinate return-to-work processes and communication among employees, managers and integrated partners
  • Coordinate supplemental pay using PFL, short-term disability, paid parental leave, sick leave and vacation
  • Interpret leave laws and explain interactions with paid time off, workers’ compensation and disability benefits
  • Facilitate accommodation requests, including ADA requests, and administer other time-off programs
  • Maintain accurate leave and accommodation records and confidential medical documentation
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable leave and accommodation laws and contribute to policy revisions
  • Assist with insurance premium billing, payment tracking, reconciliation and follow-up during unpaid or reduced-pay leave
  • At H01.2 level: assist with new benefits program implementation, counsel on complex benefits policies, resolve benefits issues, conduct training and orientation, support annual open enrollment, analyze audit reports and run basic management reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Basic knowledge and experience with employee benefits programs and benefits practices, techniques, standards, processes and systems
  • Experience providing benefits information and guidance to employees and their families
  • Experience with regulatory requirements and relevant state and federal laws pertaining to leave management
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic knowledge and experience using automated business tools and specialized applications, including MS Office
  • At H01.2 level: comprehensive experience providing one-on-one and/or group benefits counseling
  • At H01.2 level: effective interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • At H01.2 level: experience working with limited guidance and as an effective team member
  • At H01.2 level: experience with online HRIS/benefit data systems
  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with NDAA Section 3112
  • External applicants selected for the position must pass a pre-employment drug test
