About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide information and counseling to employees regarding leave of absence and modified work schedule needs
- Assist with administration of leave requests and accommodations in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Coordinate FMLA, CFRA, SDI, PFL, Paid Parental Leave and other state and federal leave processes across multiple states
- Gather and complete required paperwork, determine leave eligibility and designate qualifying FMLA leave
- Coordinate employees’ return-to-work process
- Facilitate communication among employees, managers and integrated partners throughout leave periods
- Coordinate supplemental pay by integrating benefits with PFL, short-term disability, paid parental leave, sick leave and vacation
- Interpret leave laws and explain interactions with paid time off, workers’ compensation and disability benefits
- Facilitate accommodation requests under the ADA and administer other time-off programs
- Maintain accurate leave and accommodation records and preserve confidentiality of medical documentation
- Maintain knowledge of applicable leave and accommodation laws and contribute to compliant policy revisions
- Assist with insurance premium billing and collection during unpaid or reduced-pay leaves
- At H01.2 level: assist with implementing benefits programs, advise on complex benefits policies, research and resolve benefits issues, conduct training and orientation sessions, participate in annual Open Enrollment, analyze audit reports, and run basic management reports
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Basic knowledge and experience with a variety of employee benefits programs and applying benefits practices, techniques, standards, processes and systems
- Experience providing benefits information and guidance to employees and their families
- Experience with regulatory requirements and relevant state and federal laws pertaining to leave management
- Excellent customer service skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Basic knowledge and experience using automated business tools and specialized applications, including MS Office applications
- At H01.2 level: comprehensive experience providing one-on-one and/or group benefits counseling in retirement, survivor benefits, disability, leave of absence, group insurance plans or financial savings plans
- Effective interpersonal skills for advising, counseling, recommending and approving actions on benefits issues
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Experience working with limited guidance and as an effective team member
- Experience with online HRIS/benefit data systems
- External applicants selected for this position must pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test
- Candidates must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with NDAA Section 3112
- Assignments longer than 179 days require a federal background investigation
