About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Shape the engineering department’s standards, habits, and leadership
Lead products contractors use daily and Leap Crew
Partner with the VP of Engineering on direction and department operations
Own engineering delivery across approximately 35 engineers on seven teams
Agree with Product on delivery measures, report progress weekly, and improve delivery
Lead team leads and engineers; set expectations, coach, and address performance gaps
Push decisions to team leads and ensure work progresses from specification to customers
Own releases, alerting, on-call, incident reviews, uptime, recovery time, production time, and release quality
Run delivery reviews and specification reviews
Work with partner-team leadership on priorities, quality, and engineer development
Run hiring and onboarding loops and make hiring decisions through senior level
Establish consistent practices, tools, and infrastructure across teams
Write code weekly as a player-coach, building with AI agents alongside engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years managing engineers, including managing managers or team leads
Experience running an engineering organization of 15 or more engineers, including offshore partner teams
Experience owning delivery for a product company
Experience owning production: releases, alerting, on-call, and incident review
Systems thinking, including designing cadences, measures, and reviews
Hands-on player-coach experience reading specs and pull requests, pairing with engineers, and shipping with AI coding agents
Engineer by trade with ability to assess software designs and technical risk
Experience using AI coding agents, measuring their performance, adapting usage, and bringing a team along
Authorized to work in the US and able to keep Eastern time zone hours
Nice-to-have: vertical SaaS, home services, or contractor-facing software experience
Nice-to-have: payments or lending, SOC 2, and PCI DSS
Nice-to-have: legacy and modern systems migration
Nice-to-have: trunk-based development, feature flags, TypeScript, Node, React, PostgreSQL, and AWS
Nice-to-have: growth-stage, investor-backed company experience reporting engineering results to executives and the board
