About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform phlebotomy, EKG, DNA collections, and other patient services on routine and STAT bases
- Perform venipunctures, capillary collections, POCT, EKG, PKU, DUI, drug screen, and DNA collections for all age groups
- Perform test ordering, clerical duties, specimen accessioning, processing, preparation, storage, and transport
- Positively identify patients and accurately label specimens according to laboratory protocols
- Clarify orders and pre-analytical test requirements; review requisitions for accuracy
- Log courier calls and coordinate specimen pickups
- Perform LIS and HIS data entry for blood and body fluids
- Obtain blood and body fluid specimens from hospital, outpatient, and emergency-room areas
- Use assigned programs, systems, applications, and laboratory equipment
- Respond to customer and client questions regarding specimen requirements, testing schedules, and hospital and departmental operations
- Handle heavy workloads, work independently or extended hours as necessary, multitask, prioritize, and remain organized
- Serve as a liaison between LVHN-Pocono and counterparts/customers while assisting with inquiries and concerns
- Project a positive image of the Medical Center with a focus on patient care and customer relations
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma/GED
- 1 year of experience (the minimum qualification text is truncated after “1 year or”)
- Proficient computer skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge of best practices and regulations for blood drawing techniques and collection
- Coursework or previous medical terminology experience
- Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and providers
- Ability to build comprehensive reports and effectively convey information
- Knowledge of safety guidelines, proper PPE utilization, and sanitization processes
- Must successfully complete appropriate training and achieve proficiency within 90 days
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification in Pennsylvania within 90 days
- Pennsylvania driver's license
- Preferred: Technical School Diploma
- Preferred: Approved phlebotomy training course or 1 year of previous work experience as a phlebotomist
- Preferred: Pennsylvania Phlebotomy Technician Certification or ASCP Phlebotomy Laboratory Technician certification
- Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.; frequent sitting/standing and keyboard use; may require kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR
