About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide physical therapy treatment under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist
- Teach patients exercises for mobility, strength, and coordination
- Train patients to walk with crutches, canes, or walkers
- Teach massage and demonstrate physical agents and electrotherapy, including ultrasound and electrical stimulation
- Measure changes in patient performance resulting from physical therapy
- Deliver treatment consistent with the plan of care and the patient's condition to restore function, prevent disability, and maximize performance
- Instruct patients, families, and staff in exercise, mobility techniques, and equipment use
- Recommend modifications to physical therapy treatment plans
- Apply modalities to aid recovery and relieve pain
- Provide cost-effective care according to departmental billing guidelines
- Complete and submit documentation according to policies, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Communicate with the supervising physical therapist about patient concerns and progress
- Select and fit assistive devices for gait training and instruct patients in their proper use
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s Degree in physical therapy assisting
- Ability to train and mentor others
- Ability to work at various locations per diem
- Must be able to provide safe, compassionate, and competent physical therapy treatments
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
- PTA - Physical Therapist Assistant - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
- Successful completion of clinical affiliations as required for completion of PTA curriculum (preferred)
- Ability to lift and carry 40–50 lbs.
- Frequent to continuous standing/walking; patient transporters can walk 8–10 miles per shift
- May be required to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR
