About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the direct marketing strategy and set volume, response and payback targets anchored to LTV
- Own the channel P&L, forecasting, budget and CAC/LTV discipline
- Decide how far and how fast to scale based on economics
- Source and buy prospect data from bureaus and brokers and combine it with first-party data
- Direct analysts building response and propensity models to determine who to mail, with what offer and when
- Work with risk analysts to shape offers around eligibility and lifetime value
- Plan and run the campaign calendar from data selection through mail delivery
- Select, negotiate with and manage print and postal suppliers on cost, quality and turnaround
- Brief the creative team on packs, copy and offers and take campaigns through compliance sign-off
- Build reporting connecting sends to funnel, revenue and LTV and report on channel performance
- Partner with data, product, risk, finance and creative teams to unlock targeting and offers
- Hire and develop the team as the channel scales
- Use AI to enable a small team to operate effectively
- Lead dedicated analysts and work with the creative team
- Own the direct marketing channel end to end, including creative, sends, logistics, offers, reporting, data pipeline and user-data enrichment
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years in direct marketing, including at least 2–3 years owning an acquisition direct marketing programme end to end
- Track record of mailing cold prospects at meaningful scale, with accountability for volumes, budgets, response rates and CPAs
- Commercial ownership, including business cases, volume and return forecasts, channel P&L, CAC, ROI and payback measurement
- Experience procuring data from suppliers, including list selection, screening, enrichment and cost management
- Deep knowledge of the direct marketing supply chain, including print, lettershop, Royal Mail products, Advertising Mail, Mailmark, partially addressed mail, door drops and suppression
- Strong analytical judgement, including test cells, holdouts, response modelling and propensity modelling
- Experience managing suppliers, including tendering, negotiation, SLA setting and schedule management
- Ability to run multi-drop campaign calendars across products, segments, creative, compliance sign-off, production and mail dates
- Experience leading analysts and working closely with creative teams
- Clear communication and ability to earn the trust of finance, risk, compliance and data teams
- Demonstrable use of AI in workflow
- Desirable: acquisition mail experience in financial services, especially credit cards or loans, including prescreened or pre-approved offers and risk-based targeting
- Desirable: experience standing up a data pipeline or enrichment stack using first-party, third-party or bureau data
- Desirable: experience building a channel or function from scratch
- Desirable: background hiring and developing an analytics or design team
- Must have the right to work in the UK or obtain appropriate UK work authorization
