About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide individualized instruction and accommodations in general education and/or special education environments
- Support students’ diverse abilities and identify their unique needs
- Participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) process and ARD Committee meetings
- Collaborate with students, parents, campus staff, District staff, classroom teachers, service providers, and support personnel to develop and implement IEPs
- Conduct formal and informal assessments and analyze student progress data
- Use data to plan instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment
- Implement modifications, accommodations, behavior supports, and Behavior Intervention Plans
- Support special education students across school settings
- Collaborate on student schedules and supervise paraprofessionals, volunteers, and assigned teacher aides
- Support communication, technology, problem-solving, social/emotional development, independence, and growth
- Provide or supervise personal, medical, and feeding care when specified in IEPs
- Maintain classroom environments, student records, confidentiality, and required documentation
- Participate in extracurricular activities, faculty meetings, committees, and professional development
- Comply with federal, state, District, and school special education regulations and policies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education
- SPED & ELAR certification required, as stated in the job title
- Knowledge of assigned academic subject(s)
- Demonstrated proficiency in creating, implementing, and progress-monitoring specially designed instruction
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to assist with positioning students with physical disabilities
- Ability to provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and student feedings as stated in IEPs
- Ability to travel districtwide
- Ability to supervise assigned teacher aide(s)
