About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Research, develop, design, and validate mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems for large mining haul trucks and autonomous mining haul trucks
  • Perform system calculations and simulations
  • Create schematic representations of system designs and operation
  • Collaborate with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other disciplines to define control-system specifications and logic
  • Write software and use model-based design techniques to develop software modules
  • Develop test requests for component- and system-level testing and validation
  • Research electric and hydraulic components for control systems
  • Optimize system designs and parameters using analytical methods
  • Specify control components including PLCs, computing platforms, HMIs, and associated hardware
  • Estimate development and serial-production time and cost requirements
  • Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data
  • Develop operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
  • Train, mentor, and develop engineers and other personnel at Level 4
  • Review and approve mechanical and/or electrical system designs at Level 4
  • Work independently and collaboratively with engineers, designers, and production personnel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Systems Engineer 1: MS, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Engineering, or ASEE with 10 years of relevant electrical experience
  • Systems Engineer 2: MS with 1 year or BS with 2 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment
  • Systems Engineer 3: MS with 4–6 years or BS with 6–8 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment
  • Systems Engineer 4 (Senior): MS with 6–8 years or BS with 8–10 years of relevant electrical experience in an engineering environment
  • Ability to mathematically model mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems
  • Ability to create and review system schematics
  • Matlab/Simulink system modeling proficiency for Levels 2–4
  • Knowledge of model-based code development
  • CAD/3D modeling software experience for Levels 2–4
  • Knowledge of robotics and/or autonomous systems
  • Knowledge of industrial hydraulics, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, and automated control
  • Ability to analyze machine data logs using Matlab, nCode Glyphworks, or similar tools
  • Knowledge of project management tools such as Microsoft Project for Levels 3–4
  • Ability to write system specifications and requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and software specifications
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport
  • Ability to maintain MSHA certification
