About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work within the Quality Department and report to the Manager, Quality, or delegate.
  • Complete agreed graduate objectives and development activities.
  • Attend relevant training courses involving equipment, processes, systems, standards and procedures.
  • Develop knowledge and experience in ISO 14731 Annex B tasks supporting company management systems and standards.
  • Coordinate welding management and related activities.
  • Prepare reports using company equipment, computers, digital cameras and NDT equipment.
  • Use CAD, BAAN, LIKV, LIDA, email, Word, Excel and other software systems.
  • Liaise with internal personnel, departments and external companies.
  • Investigate quality, production and welding issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement.
  • Support quality management systems and LCC certifications including ISO 9001, ISO 3834-2 and EN 1090.
  • Support, cooperate with and assist engineers and inspectors.
  • Maintain work and inspection records.
  • Cooperate in managing welding activities throughout the company.
  • Carry out or assist with welder certification and testing.
  • Monitor welding quality and report findings and KPIs to production and management.
  • Carry out weld testing, including visual examination, hardness testing and weld macro examination.
  • Produce, coordinate and document Welding Procedure Qualification Reports, testing, Welding Procedure Specifications and related documentation.
  • Assist control inspectors and perform other quality department functions as required.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Relevant knowledge in all aspects of steel fabrication.
  • Good knowledge of Engineering Materials and Physical Metallurgy will be an advantage.
  • Good computer skills, with experience in CAD being a distinct advantage.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Attain and maintain an appropriate standard of independent certification for the Welding Engineer role.
  • EWE/IWE qualification, where applicable; training and support may be provided if not already held.
