About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide one-on-one or small-group academic tutoring across subject areas
- Help students comprehend subject material and successfully complete courses
- Tutor students in literacy, technology, and access to online or virtual courses
- Provide basic technical support for online course setup and access
- Identify concepts requiring instruction or re-teaching from student notes, discussions, teacher directions, and student work
- Evaluate student binders, calendars, class notes, text notes, and book notes
- Maintain control in learning environments and administer discipline according to policies
- Conduct mini-lessons on writing, study skills, and course preparation
- Conduct brainstorming and clustering sessions
- Facilitate peer critique groups in subject-area labs
- Coordinate with teachers regarding course outlines, assignment schedules, student progress, and concerns
- Contact students and parents regarding school programming, outreach, and retention
- Review student course schedules and assist with testing and assessments
- Support instructional professionals with discipline and positive student behavior
- Maintain compliance with school regulations, policies, attendance requirements, and required training
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent, and completion of at least two years of college (48 units), or an associate degree or higher from an accredited state college, or passing a State or local academic assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction (California Basic Education Skills Test)
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Flexibility to meet student and school needs
- Knowledge of standard office computer programs and educational programs
- Proficiency in basic computer literacy and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to travel in performance of job duties
- Knowledge of Math and Reading teaching techniques preferred
- Bilingual speaking skills desired
- Demonstrated interest in a teaching career desired
