About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define the organization-wide strategy for managing cloud, vendor, and AI costs
- Continuously reassess what to optimize, the priorities, and the rationale based on the actual concentration of spending and risk
- Build the AI cost management framework
- Analyze cloud usage, vendor contracts, and AI spending to identify inefficiencies and reduce unnecessary costs
- Design or shape cost dashboards, automations, and monitoring systems
- Recommend specific technical optimizations and determine when an engineering partnership is required
- Oversee and, at times, execute multiple cost optimization initiatives
- Manage cost allocation, monitoring, and alerts, then present spending and savings reports to leadership
- Partner with FP&A to define and establish key cost metrics
- Manage cross-functional dependencies, risks, and change with SRE, Engineering, Data, FP&A, and Procurement teams
- Present senior leadership with insights into feasibility, timelines, risks, and cost trade-offs
- Balance centralized standards with business-unit autonomy
- Surface issues and advocate for change across products and teams
- Partner with Delivery Operations leadership on TPM career development, best practices, and the foundations of the TPM function
- Mentor other TPMs
- Contribute to optimizing cloud, vendor, and AI spending at Lightspeed, an all-in-one commerce platform for merchants
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience owning the strategy and execution of a cloud, vendor, or AI cost optimization program
- Deep knowledge of the AI vendor ecosystem, including pricing models, contract structures, optimization levers, and nuances specific to AI cost management compared with traditional cloud cost management
- Technical expertise in network/cloud architecture, cost management, and optimization techniques sufficient to directly design or evaluate dashboards and automation
- Experience managing an area without an established operating model and building the framework as you go
- Demonstrated track record managing large-scale, cross-organizational programs spanning multiple business units
- Strong strategic communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and financial trade-offs into actionable decisions for leadership
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive organizational change without direct managerial authority
- Ability to design or shape automations, dashboards, and monitoring systems with technical depth equivalent to that of a senior engineering role
- Hands-on experience building and automating with AI
- Disclosure of any criminal convictions and a criminal background check as part of the hiring process
