About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work with existing Chichewa audio recordings for a multilingual speech-to-text project focused on African languages
- Identify and tag personal information (PII) in audio content
- Mark background sounds and non-speech events according to provided guidelines
- Review and correct automatically generated Chichewa transcripts against audio
- Ensure high fidelity to spoken content, including noises and cross talk
- Review finished transcripts for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to guidelines
- Correct errors and provide structured feedback on linguistic issues
- Contribute to AI and language technology development
- Complete onboarding and payment setup after selection and any required evaluation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Native-level proficiency in Chichewa
- Strong listening skills and close attention to detail
- Prior experience with spoken language transcription or linguistic annotation is a strong advantage
- Background in linguistics, language studies, or translation is a plus
- Good-quality headphones and a quiet place to work
- Availability for around 20–30 hours per week over the 2–3 month project period
- Reliable availability and commitment to on-time delivery
- Most tasks require a minimum of 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week
- Updated CV in English
- Must pass an evaluation if required
- Must be able to work as a 1099 independent contractor and handle own tax obligations
- Geographic restrictions may apply due to international embargoes or sanctions
