About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate release and entry processing for air, ocean, rail, and complex northern border shipments
  • Process US Customs and/or PGA releases for clients with complex standard operating procedures
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of complex shipments
  • Create customs entries in the National Service Center (NSC)
  • Enter shipment information for release, rating and billing, ensuring mandatory fields are complete and accurate
  • Determine value for duty and tariff treatment using invoice details, terms of sale, keywords and HS codes
  • Coordinate with team members regarding missing documentation, information or instructions
  • Verify documentation for release conditions, compliance and rating compliance
  • Escalate two-step release requirements and authorization or release issues
  • Participate in daily Release Operations activities in NSCs
  • Use available system automation tools to support release processing
  • Open files and input data for new shipments in relevant systems
  • Coordinate and prepare entry summaries as needed
  • Monitor Customs and PGA release status
  • Follow SOPs, business rules and special client instructions; recommend updates when needed
  • Research and respond to information requests by phone or email
  • Prioritize work according to supervisor direction, Customs requirements and company standards
  • Maintain relationships with clients, carriers, forwarders and Customs
  • Perform other related duties assigned by management
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 years of related experience
  • High School/GED or equivalent
  • Familiarity with all applicable Customs laws, regulations, procedures and industry practices
  • Client service orientation
  • Organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Assertiveness in problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to present a professional image
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel software
  • Working towards or successful completion of the Certified Customs Specialists (CCS) designation with CSCB or NCBFAA, if not already obtained
  • Successful completion of the CCS examination is mandatory for further advancement
  • Availability to work Monday–Friday, 12:00 pm–8:30 pm CST
  • Must be based in the USA
