About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own and improve Localize’s technical infrastructure, databases, and platform tooling
- Oversee infrastructure across AWS and Cloudflare
- Design, build, test, and maintain backend services, APIs, and background processing workflows
- Work hands-on across the dashboard, public APIs, legacy workers, and BullMQ workers
- Own complex product engineering work from requirements clarification and design through implementation, production validation, and operation
- Contribute frontend changes to complete customer-facing solutions
- Apply engineering judgment to data modeling, API contracts, asynchronous processing, and failure handling
- Diagnose and resolve application performance and reliability issues, including inefficient queries, queue bottlenecks, and search behavior
- Improve code quality through automated tests, code reviews, and incremental refactoring
- Mentor teammates on backend design, debugging, and operationally sound development
- Ensure scalability, reliability, performance, and security of Redis and MongoDB data stores
- Own and improve deployment and release processes, including automation, safe rollouts, and rollback procedures
- Improve the SDLC through development environments, CI/CD, automated quality and security checks, and release readiness
- Lead infrastructure security and SOC 2 Type II compliance activities
- Operate technical controls, maintain audit-ready evidence, support audits, and remediate findings
- Manage access, vulnerabilities, changes, logging, backups, and recovery controls
- Help lead incident response and blameless post-incident reviews
- Prioritize infrastructure and SDLC improvements based on customer impact, business priorities, and risk
- Monitor uptime and performance using Datadog, ClickHouse, HyperDX, and other tools
- Implement infrastructure cost, reliability, and scalability improvements
- Maintain detailed infrastructure and dependency documentation and maps
- Enhance Developer Experience
- Learn and adopt technologies that improve infrastructure efficiency and capabilities
- Report directly to the Engineering Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years engineering experience
- At least 4 years of experience in a Platform Engineer role
- Expertise managing and optimizing AWS infrastructure
- Experience with Redis and MongoDB, including configuration, monitoring, optimization, and backup management
- Expertise with OpenTofu and Terragrunt infrastructure-as-code tools
- Experience with manual or automated deployment and release management
- Understanding of CI/CD processes and tools
- Hands-on experience securing production infrastructure, including least-privilege access controls, vulnerability remediation, secrets management, and security monitoring
- Ability to translate security and compliance requirements into repeatable engineering practices
- Experience maintaining control-operation evidence and supporting SOC 2 Type II audit readiness and remediation
- Experience improving the SDLC with product engineers
- Customer-obsessed, business-aligned approach
- Skills optimizing infrastructure and application performance, reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency
- Senior-level backend engineering experience designing, shipping, and maintaining production features and services
- Strong proficiency with Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript, including API development, asynchronous programming, automated testing, and production debugging
- Experience designing application data models and reliable background jobs, including safe retries, idempotency, and failure recovery
- Ability to reason about application, database, and queue performance and correctness
- Ability to work across backend and frontend boundaries
- Ability to communicate designs and tradeoffs clearly and provide constructive code reviews
- Proficiency in command-line scripting
- Disaster recovery planning, including data integrity and availability during emergencies
- Experience with APM and logging tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Sentry, or Kibana
- Previous experience working in a remote position is a must
- Nice-to-have: TypeScript, React, Mongoose, LESS
- Nice-to-have: production LLM integrations, prompt/context engineering, token management, RAG, embeddings, vector search, MCP, tool/function calling, and agents
