About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Maintain accountability for accurate, complete, and timely enterprise financial statements
  • Set close requirements and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end close results
  • Partner with the Senior Accountant and CFO/COO to resolve accounting issues and complete closes
  • Lead annual financial statement audits and coordinate audit strategy, issue resolution, and communications
  • Own quarterly intercompany calculations and review supporting schedules and entries
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, documentation, and internal controls over financial reporting
  • Own budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysis
  • Partner with the CFO/COO and departments on annual budgeting
  • Develop and maintain the enterprise-wide long-term financial model
  • Lead re-forecasting and scenario planning
  • Lead enterprise-wide expense management and spending oversight
  • Provide financial analyses and recommendations to senior leaders
  • Support preparation of financial materials for boards and board committees
  • Establish standards and controls for accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, payroll-related finance activities, and other accounting processes
  • Authorize vendor invoices and cash disbursements
  • Manage external tax accountant relationships and accountability for federal, state, local, and sales tax compliance
  • Lead the annual 409A valuation process and review stock-based compensation accounting
  • Manage the company capitalization table with the operations team
  • Set finance priorities with the Senior Accountant and provide technical direction
  • Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, and controls
  • Partner with Legal, Risk, Operations, and other functions on financial, operational, and compliance risks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, technical accounting, close management, audits, tax coordination, and internal controls
  • Ability to build and maintain integrated financial models and lead budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and variance analysis across multiple entities or business lines
  • Strong business judgment and ability to translate detailed financial information into practical recommendations for senior leaders
  • Ability to independently lead complex enterprise-wide work, set priorities, resolve ambiguity, and deliver accurate results in a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing materials for senior executives, boards, and board committees
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and influencing skills without formal reporting authority
  • Meticulous attention to detail, professional skepticism, and integrity
  • Hands-on, service-oriented approach with ability to move between strategic analysis and detailed execution
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible finance and accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Senior Controller, or senior finance leader responsible for financial reporting and planning
  • Experience with GAAP and non-GAAP financial reporting and complex technical accounting matters
  • Experience building or scaling finance capabilities at an early-stage or growth-stage company
  • Active CPA license preferred
  • Public company experience preferred
  • Big Four public accounting or comparable fast-paced corporate experience preferred; experience in both strongly preferred
  • Financial services, securities markets, exchanges, or venture-backed technology company experience preferred
