About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate opportunities to reduce healthcare costs and improve value of care through medical claims analysis
- Work with medical economics, clinical, and data analytics teams
- Investigate a cost savings initiative
- Assess opportunities using internal and external data
- Develop estimates of short-term and long-term financial impact under various assumptions
- Work with a mentor and support key strategic projects
- Complete assignments based on business needs, departmental priorities, and qualifications
- Perform technical and non-technical business-related projects
- Attend development workshops focused on key business concepts
- Create and deliver presentations at the completion of the internship
- Maintain confidentiality and protect member privacy
- Demonstrate integrity and support the company's mission, values, and Corporate Code of Conduct
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Perform other functions as assigned by management
Requirements
What you’ll need- Desired majors/degree programs include Actuarial, Statistics, Math, Economics or similar programs
- High School diploma along with proof of continuous college enrollment
- Must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program
- Must be in good academic standing
- Preferred but not required experience with Excel
- Preferred but not required coding experience with SAS, SQL, R, or Python
- Preferred but not required experience communicating across various teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interact with technical and non-technical audiences and interface with staff at all levels
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced and changing environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Ability to work well in a team and establish good working relationships
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills
- Proactive, creative, and flexible approach to completing assigned tasks
- Commitment to continuous improvement of skills and team functioning
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and on intra- and inter-departmental teams
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience using a desktop computer in a professional environment
- Ability to work while sitting and/or standing at a workstation and using a computer, keyboard, mouse, and/or phone for three or more hours at a time
- Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or training courses as needed
