About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Extract and develop complex reports and analyses with summaries and recommendations
- Monitor and measure healthcare trends, outcomes and business processes using data mining, statistical techniques and business intelligence technologies
- Provide management with statistical information, trend identification and advanced predictive models
- Design and execute analytic requests using healthcare data sources and structures
- Prepare, develop and analyze utilization, quality and medical expense data
- Develop reporting and analytic solutions including routine reports, data mining, predictive analytics, stored processes, macros, cubes and dashboards
- Review emerging healthcare trends and recommend Health Informatics applications and process changes
- Identify cost containment and quality improvement opportunities
- Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Train and mentor analysts at higher levels
- Develop data strategies and integrate large datasets across multiple sources
- Present data as information and make recommendations to customers
- Develop innovative quantitative models supporting cost reduction, growth and profitability
- Provide consultative analytics support to business units
- Prepare datasets for mining and predictive modeling
- Provide expertise in relational database concepts and statistical analysis
- Develop complex predictive models, interpret model output and make strategic business inferences
- Assess upgrades to analytic products such as SAS and Cognos
- Prepare studies for journal publication or national presentations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Medical Informatics, Economics, or related field
- Minimum of two years’ experience in data or information analysis and reporting
- Moderate knowledge of relational databases and extracting information from them
- One year of SAS, VBA or SQL experience
- Intermediate level of the Microsoft suite
- Knowledge of basic statistical concepts and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Intermediate understanding of healthcare products and operational business knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to complete projects with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of the healthcare system and experience with physician or hospital claims data preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers
- Level II: minimum of three years’ analytic experience in healthcare; ability to work with datasets of 2TB or greater; strong Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, VBA, SQL, Power Play, Impromptu and SAS skills
- Level III: minimum of five years’ experience using statistical concepts and tools; expertise in relational databases; advanced statistics, data mining, forecasting, predictive modeling and/or actuarial techniques; extensive analytic tools experience
- Level IV: minimum of three years’ healthcare-specific predictive modeling experience or seven years’ experience in health informatics; ability to create, develop and validate models independently; SAS Base Certification required within 12 months of hire or promotion; advanced analytic software programming proficiency
