About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead Luminate Bank’s data function across the bank and mortgage division
Own the company’s data platform, data integrations, data engineering team, vendor management, and enterprise reporting
Complete the in-flight Data Lakehouse using Snowflake, Power BI, and supporting ingestion tools
Transition Data Lakehouse build and support from the external consulting team to an internal Luminate team
Transfer source code, pipelines, data models, transformation logic, documentation, environments, credentials, and administrative access to Luminate-owned accounts and version control
Document critical pipelines and reports with runbooks and ensure internal support coverage
Assess ingestion and integration tooling and recommend options based on cost, reliability, and maintainability
Establish the platform operating model, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, SDLC change management, and cloud cost management
Lead, hire, coach, and develop a small team of data engineers
Set engineering priorities, standards, code review practices, and performance expectations
Contribute directly to architecture, data modeling, and pipeline development as a player-coach
Plan and deliver work through the technology SDLC, including grooming, capacity planning, documentation, and release management
Own financial, management, and operational reporting for the bank and mortgage division
Partner with Finance, Accounting, Capital Markets, and business leaders to define metrics and deliver a trusted source of truth reconciled to the general ledger
Support regulatory and compliance reporting, including Call Report and HMDA
Deliver executive dashboards and self-service Power BI reporting while retiring manual, spreadsheet-based, and Domo reporting where possible
Lead the data integration workstream for the Vesta loan origination system implementation
Manage loan data mapping, conversion, migration, historical retention, and conversion validation
Build integrations and data feeds between Vesta, the Data Lakehouse, servicing, accounting, CRM, and secondary marketing systems
Ensure reporting continuity through system cutover
Collaborate with Engineering, Enterprise Systems, Mortgage Operations, and the Vesta implementation team on scope, testing, and readiness
Establish data governance covering ownership, definitions, dictionaries, lineage, and quality monitoring
Protect customer and borrower NPI/PII through access controls, encryption, retention standards, and GLBA compliance
Support internal and external audits and regulatory examinations
Integrate data across banking, mortgage, servicing, CRM, and digital banking platforms for a unified customer view
Prepare governed data for AI, automation, and advanced analytics initiatives
Manage data-tool and vendor relationships, contracts, and costs

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, or business intelligence
5+ years leading and developing data engineers
Experience in banking and/or mortgage lending required; experience across both strongly preferred
Proven track record taking ownership of a data platform from consultants or vendors, stabilizing it, and building an internal team to run it
Hands-on expertise with Snowflake or a comparable cloud data platform, advanced SQL, Python, and modern ELT/integration tools such as Fivetran, Azure Data Factory, or dbt
Strong Power BI experience, including semantic models, governance, and executive dashboard design
Experience with an LOS or core banking conversion
Familiarity with Encompass, Jack Henry, and mortgage servicing data preferred
Solid understanding of bank and mortgage financial reporting, including general ledger reconciliation, Call Report, HMDA, and mortgage production and pipeline metrics
Strong data modeling skills, dimensional and/or Data Vault
Experience with data lineage, quality, and governance practices
Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Git-based version control, and CI/CD practices for data pipelines
Experience securing sensitive data in a regulated financial institution and supporting audits and exams
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical topics for executives and business partners
Snowflake, Azure, or Power BI certifications preferred
