About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee deferred revenue so income is recognised in the P&L in the month the event occurs
- Maintain accruals for income and costs due but not yet incurred
- Process general and event-related prepayments
- Oversee accounts payable, including weekly GBP payment runs and ad hoc international payments
- Prepare VAT returns and ensure VAT compliance
- Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure correct depreciation
- Run revenue variance analysis between Xero and Salesforce for each event
- Complete bank reconciliations for all bank accounts
- Oversee company credit cards and employee expenses
- Handle client queries
- Respond to ad hoc requests from non-finance colleagues
- Assist with the year-end audit
- Implement processes and software to improve efficiency
- Occasionally work outside standard hours to support events or meet deadlines
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ability to deputise for the Finance Director on occasion and understand the responsibility associated with company cash
- Innovative, collaborative approach to increasing team workloads and willingness to use new technologies
- Ability to own a broad, fast-paced workload from day one, learn quickly, and work independently with minimal handover
- Solid grasp of accruals-based accounting, including deferred revenue, accruals, and prepayments
- Knowledge of UK VAT, ideally in an event-driven business
- Confidence running month-end close and reconciling across multiple bank accounts and systems
- Xero and Salesforce experience is a bonus
- Clear communication skills to support non-finance colleagues and handle client queries professionally
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or significant equivalent experience in a similar role
