About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform high-risk administrative functions associated with the foreclosure process while safeguarding M&T's interest in the subject mortgaged property
- Research foreclosure files, court records, invoices, and supporting documentation to identify, investigate, monitor foreclosure reporting, and analyze loss events
- Develop comprehensive timelines and detailed event narratives explaining foreclosure reporting and losses
- Evaluate foreclosure-related fees, costs, advances, and expenses to determine validity, recoverability, and accountability
- Assign losses to the appropriate responsible party based on documented findings, contractual obligations, and established guidelines
- Work with foreclosure attorney firms to obtain explanations, documentation, and clarification regarding fees, costs, delays, procedural deficiencies, and foreclosure milestones
- Conduct professional discussions with attorney firms regarding errors, omissions, performance concerns, and loss events
- Analyze root causes of losses and identify trends or recurring issues that may increase financial or operational risk
- Recommend corrective actions and process improvements to mitigate future losses
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping, timely loss reviews, and adherence to reporting requirements
- Partner with foreclosure operations, legal, investor reporting, vendor management, and quality control teams
- Research, validate, and update loans on foreclosure exception reports
- Conduct regular side-by-side sessions with the team to discuss loan-level issues and procedures
- Review assigned loans, update documentation, and complete follow-up
- Work with management to revise, update, and implement procedures; create new procedures
- Gather departmental information and assemble presentations for investor, regulatory, and internal meetings
- Adhere to applicable compliance and operational risk controls
Requirements
What you’ll need- A combined 4 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 2 years’ Default Servicing related field experience (e.g., Collections, REO, Loss Mitigation, Foreclosure Claims)
- Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Detail oriented
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Preferred: 3 years’ Default Servicing related field experience
- Preferred: Proven leadership ability
- Preferred: Knowledge of bank and departmental systems
- Preferred: Understanding of mortgage product including home equity loans and lines of credit, general operation and systemic functions including payment allocation and escrow
- Preferred: Experience training new staff and implementing procedures and process changes
