About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage all activities of a branch and its overall operating model
- Direct sales and business development to achieve profitability, operational, sales, and annual goals
- Lead, coach, develop, and manage branch staff
- Identify Retail and Business Banking customer needs and provide short- and long-term solutions
- Prospect and grow Business Banking relationships through outreach and community presence
- Conduct interviews and select employees
- Model and coach customer service and needs-determination behaviors
- Maintain operational, security, compliance, and control requirements; prevent fraud and protect customer assets
- Own complex account servicing and error-resolution issues through complete resolution
- Process Business Banking loan requests up to $100,000
- Bundle products and services as appropriate
- Implement internal and external audit points and address regulatory issues
- Promote a culture of belonging consistent with the M&T Bank brand
- Exercise managerial authority over staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations
- Report to a Retail Regional Manager and lead the branch team toward annual sales and profitability goals
- Maintain federal SAFE Act registration, insurance licensing expectations, and Business Banking Specialist expectations
- Stay current on operational, product, and system changes
- Service existing customers while growing business through proactive sales and outside calling
- Build partnerships across the bank to resolve customer and employee issues
Requirements
What you’ll need- Branch Manager experience is strongly preferred
- Proven success in business development, sales growth, and relationship management
- Strong community involvement and networking skills
- Fluent in English and Spanish
- Bachelor’s degree OR four (4) years’ relevant experience in lieu of degree
- Minimum three years sales experience
- Minimum two years’ managerial experience or proven leadership abilities
- Life/Accident and Health Insurance licensing required within 18 months of entry into position, at Market Manager discretion/branch need
- M&T Business Banking Specialist certification within 18 months of hire
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of Business Banking products, services and client relationship management
- M&T Way Certified
- Precision Leadership Certified
- Proficiency with common PC software, including Microsoft Office for word processing and spreadsheets
- Experience with Internet and email preferred
- Ability to communicate and function professionally with all levels of personnel and business partners
- Ability to fluently communicate verbally and in writing in English and the specified second language, assessed for proficiency
- Strong financial services product knowledge preferred
- Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills
- Proven ability to demonstrate and coach exceptional customer service
