About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the frontlist production team for the Feiwel & Friends, Henry Holt, and Godwin Books imprints, plus Conversions for MCPG
- Coach and support production managers while managing a list of 40–45 titles annually
- Oversee production of picture books, chapter books, novelty books, and graphic novels
- Liaise with Editorial, Design, Managing Editorial, and Publishers
- Own 4-color workflows across the group
- Maintain department-wide workflows, the Safety Testing program, and offsite materials storage
- Supervise production and manufacturing activities including scheduling, prepress, estimating, printing, and binding
- Manage seasonal launch tasks for the team
- Maintain quality standards and oversee vendor management
- Ensure compliance with corporate workflows, procedures, project data entry, vendor contracting, archiving, and project closeout
- Provide editorial with product delivery options and investigate manufacturing options
- Track schedules, budgets, quality, and vendor assignments
- Attend weekly status meetings and coordinate project details and department protocols
- Manage a medium-sized title list through production and manufacturing
- Maintain vendor relationships, negotiate non-contract project prices, evaluate vendor performance, and oversee quality-control reviews and resolutions
Requirements
What you’ll need- 15 years of book production experience, including at least 10 years in children's publishing
- Excellent knowledge of all facets of book production and manufacturing
- Highly organized and detail-minded
- Basic understanding of the publishing business and how production issues affect company success
- Ability to prioritize
- Collaborative professional work style
- Ability to adapt to changes, delays, and unexpected events
- Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems in a timely manner
- Working knowledge of Biblio and RSuite desirable
- Knowledge of the Google platform desirable
