Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead strategic technology initiatives using customer insight and behavioral science to create engaging health and wellness experiences for John Hancock Insurance
  • Translate business goals and customer needs into coordinated delivery plans across the life insurance value chain
  • Connect campaign, engagement, product, and platform capabilities
  • Guide development, testing, implementation, business readiness, stabilization, and post-launch support
  • Oversee the full SDLC for initiatives supporting policyholder, producer, and operations journeys
  • Manage technology delivery from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, control, closure, and post-initiative evaluation
  • Ensure delivery meets scope, budget, schedule, regulatory, operational-readiness, and customer commitments
  • Apply software engineering and technology expertise to implement technology strategies and effective software delivery
  • Provide cross-functional leadership and align product architecture with IT service areas
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks
  • Partner with business initiative leads to build schedules, milestones, goals, and scope
  • Foster innovation, collaboration, alignment, and productivity across teams
  • Partner with business and technology leaders to prioritize AI opportunities and define success measures, controls, and adoption plans
  • Develop and integrate metrics demonstrating IT value to the business

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, business administration, or related field
  • 3–5 years of technical program management expertise in a related field
  • 3+ years delivering technology solutions in the life insurance industry, with direct exposure to marketing and distribution areas and downstream capabilities preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in health, wellness, and/or behavioral insurance markets and related product development, distribution, or marketing
  • Familiarity with life, annuity, or health insurance regulatory and business concepts
  • Project management skills and proficiency with project/initiative management software tools and methodologies, including Agile and SDLC
  • Understanding of Agile metrics, Scrum, and similar agile methodologies
  • Working knowledge of data, integration, and platform capabilities for AI solutions, including enterprise data access, data quality and lineage, RAG, API integration, prompt/model versioning, evaluation frameworks, observability, and production monitoring
  • Proven track record delivering complex, large-scale IT solutions, including modernization and integration work such as APIs and data pipelines, in regulated environments
  • Working knowledge of insurance regulatory and compliance considerations
  • Experience with test governance, including TDD, parallel testing, defect triage, and sign-off processes
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, strategic-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with peers and leaders
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, competing objectives, risks, budgets, forecasts, metrics, and delivery plans
  • Experience partnering with Marketing and Distribution to translate product and regulatory requirements into technology deliverables
  • Ability to design and manage integrations, API contracts, versioning, and backward compatibility
  • Ability to drive non-functional requirements including user experience, high availability, resiliency, observability, and data privacy/security
  • Ability to partner with business and technology leaders to identify and prioritize AI opportunities across insurance value-chain functions
