About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead strategic initiatives delivering integrated technology solutions across John Hancock Insurance
  • Shape complex, high-impact programs spanning product enablement, distribution, policy administration, servicing, and operations
  • Partner with business initiative owners, product owners, and technology leaders to align capabilities, capacity, and investment with commitments
  • Translate business, product, regulatory, and customer needs into coordinated development, testing, implementation, and business-readiness plans
  • Ensure delivery on schedule, within budget, and with strong risk management
  • Oversee the full SDLC from initiation and delivery through implementation, stabilization, and post-launch support
  • Manage technology delivery activities including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, closure, and post-initiative evaluation
  • Apply software engineering and technology expertise to implement technology strategies and ensure effective software delivery
  • Provide cross-functional leadership and align product architecture with IT organization service areas
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks affecting project success
  • Work with business initiative leads to build schedules, milestones, goals, and scope aligned with technology components, solutions, feasibility, and delivery
  • Foster innovation, collaboration, alignment, and productivity across teams
  • Manage complex releases involving product, rate, assumption, and effective-date-driven changes
  • Coordinate business readiness and producer communications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3–5 years of technical program management expertise in a related field
  • 3+ years delivering technology solutions in the life and annuity insurance industry, required
  • Direct exposure to policy administration and supporting policyholder and agent/producer workflows, preferred
  • 3+ years of experience with administration platforms including Verisk FAST and Hexure FireLight/Foresight
  • Familiarity with life and annuity insurance regulatory and business concepts and the operational cadence of product changes
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to influence and execute work without direct management of resources
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to articulate technical vision and translate outcomes into possibilities, options, and execution
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership, sponsors, and stakeholders on business cases and roadmaps
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex releases involving product, rate, assumption, and effective-date-driven changes
  • Project management skills using initiative management software tools and methodologies, including Agile and SDLC, preferred
  • Understanding of Agile metrics, Scrum, and similar Agile methodologies, preferred
  • Working knowledge of data, integration, and platform capabilities for AI solutions, including secure access to approved enterprise data, preferred
  • Track record delivering complex, large-scale IT solutions, including modernization and integration work such as APIs and data pipelines, in regulated environments, preferred
  • Working knowledge of insurance regulatory and compliance considerations, preferred
  • Experience with test governance, including TDD, parallel testing, defect triage, and sign-off processes, preferred
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, preferred
  • Ability to manage execution plans to a budget and provide updated financial forecasts for labor and non-labor expenses, preferred
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, preferred
  • Ability to balance short-term and long-term objectives and trade-offs, preferred
