About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and program leader protecting the company’s reputation and license to operate and grow
  • Support issues management and media relations, crisis communications preparedness and response, and Business Development communications
  • Develop and implement communications strategies
  • Provide strategic counsel and create messaging for internal leaders, employees, external audiences, complex issues, sustainability, business strategy, and crisis management
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with leaders to advance business objectives through compelling communications
  • Create and deliver executive-level communications plans and materials
  • Develop and implement issues-management strategies and tactics
  • Monitor emerging enterprise or local issues and provide communications guidance
  • Respond to media inquiries and align corporate and local positioning and messaging
  • Implement crisis communications response principles under high-stakes, time-constrained circumstances, including the Incident Command System
  • Craft and manage news articles, videos, presentations, social media posts, emails, newsletters, and other content
  • Write, edit, oversee creative design, facilitate content approval, and advise on content placement
  • Partner with the Communications & Community Relations team to align corporate positioning
  • Participate in emergency-response drills as part of the Joint Information Center under the Incident Command System
  • Collaborate with company and federal, state, local, and tribal agency drill participants
  • Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members and contribute to team development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or related field required
  • 8+ years of experience producing compelling communications for a variety of channels and audiences at a large or midsized company or public relations firm required
  • 3+ years of crisis communications experience in an industrial environment preferred
  • Experience working under the Incident Command System to manage emergency response situations preferred
  • Industrial setting or industrial-client experience preferred
  • Energy or manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of internal and external communications strategies, tactics and best practices
  • Ability to think strategically and build implementation plans with measurable impact
  • Creative, analytical and data-driven capabilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with front-line workers and executives
  • Ability to establish relationships with media representatives
  • Ability to identify emerging trends from news and analysis resources
  • Excellent writing and content development skills
  • Ability to present business plans, concepts, strategies and results succinctly and persuasively
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment with autonomy, accountability and accuracy
