About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses on market conditions, operational constraints, disruptions, and strategic initiatives
  • Partner with Operations, Commercial, Logistics, and Planning teams to align plans across planning horizons, refineries, and regions
  • Lead planning studies and optimization projects independently
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced advisors and mentor junior engineers
  • Manage commercial aspects of cross-regional operations, including feedstock selection, product and intermediate placement, supply chain optimization, and market analysis
  • Lead collaboration meetings on cross-regional economic drivers
  • Develop, optimize, and execute regional plans for multiple refineries using linear programming simulation models
  • Adjust cross-regional modeling constraints to reflect real-life operating constraints
  • Lead end-to-end buy-or-make evaluations, including data gathering, recommendations, economic modeling, and sensitivity analysis
  • Collaborate with trading to align strategies and optimize outcomes
  • Communicate recommendations to regional leadership and gain alignment
  • Manage project support cases independently and propose solutions from complex data analysis

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, or a Bachelor's degree in another field with five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Four (4) years of refinery planning, optimization, value chain analysis, operations, commercial, logistics, or related experience required
  • Aspen PIMS linear programming user background preferred
  • Experience with linear programming models, including PIMS
  • Advanced understanding of refinery operations, economics, and cross-regional market dynamics
  • Ability to perform scenario and sensitivity analyses
  • Ability to develop economic models and assess risk and uncertainty
  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and propose solutions autonomously
  • Ability to communicate recommendations and gain alignment across stakeholders
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers
  • Knowledge of commodity markets, price dynamics, and supply-demand fundamentals
  • Understanding of integrated planning and optimization processes
  • Experience with optimization modeling, quantitative techniques, and scenario planning
