About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform specialized nursing functions as a member of Maricopa County's Correctional Health Team
  • Work in partnership with Maricopa County Sheriff's Detention Officers
  • Administer medications and complete related pharmacological procedures
  • Provide therapeutic treatments and extensive patient care
  • Participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of overall nursing care
  • Provide healthcare to patients inside Maricopa County jails
  • Provide health-related education appropriate to patient needs
  • Collect data for assessment of care needs, report findings, and deliver appropriate nursing interventions
  • Monitor patient progress and report outcomes
  • Participate in orientation and training of new employees, contract staff, students, and others

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Valid, unrestricted license as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing or issued by another state recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing as a multi-compact license state
  • Ability to work inside a jail
  • Ability to respond to emergencies
  • Ability to get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney that may weigh up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to be assigned to various clinical locations in the Phoenix area within a 5-mile radius
  • Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy
  • Must meet drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive
  • Experience as a licensed practical nurse
  • Experience in a medical setting requiring large medication passes
  • Intravenous Infusion Therapy/Venipuncture certification
