About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead roadway projects of varying complexity through all phases of design
  • Design and review roadway projects according to MCDOT standards
  • Design, plan, and inspect components of roadway engineering projects
  • Prepare conceptual plans, detailed plans, specifications, and estimates for public works construction project components
  • Coordinate, prepare, and review project phases or components, including engineering reports, calculations, plans, and special provisions
  • Analyze proposed projects and recommend design changes
  • Review plans for conformity to uniform codes, local ordinances, and state and federal regulations
  • Develop drafting plans and technical drawings and perform computing work
  • Participate in development of project design concepts and criteria
  • Maintain project files and document design and project management decisions
  • Write analytical reports and prepare technical estimates
  • Review project deliverables and assess scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Two years of professional civil engineering work experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment
  • Must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Experience using MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads Designer is valued
  • Experience designing roadway-related projects is valued
  • Four years of professional civil engineering work experience is valued
  • Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive
