About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build, own, and maintain robust software solutions using object-oriented programming principles
  • Apply judgment when using, verifying, or overriding AI-assisted output
  • Contribute to technical direction and facilitate architectural conversations
  • Coach teammates through technical complexity
  • Design scalable systems and modernize legacy systems
  • Identify responsible uses of AI-assisted automation for code review, triage, documentation, and skill-building
  • Own and evolve messaging/event infrastructure using Kafka and other message bus tools
  • Collaborate on AWS services including Fargate, Bedrock, EC2, ECS, SNS/SQS, RDS, and Elasticsearch
  • Work with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and deployment automation
  • Apply SQL and NoSQL expertise to scalable data solutions
  • Lead and participate in rotational on-call duties
  • Drive reliability improvements and proactive monitoring
  • Shape roadmaps and improve developer experience across disciplines
  • Conduct code reviews and promote learning
  • Champion durable documentation and design records
  • Partner with internal tooling teams to improve AI-driven orchestration, review, and triage tools
  • Mentor engineers and foster a collaborative, inquisitive team culture

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 9+ years in software development
  • Proven commercial expertise in object-oriented programming with Java and at least one additional language; C# preferred
  • Experience with Kafka; other message bus systems considered
  • Experience with microservices
  • Deep knowledge of system design and scalable architecture
  • Experience with cloud technologies, AWS preferred
  • Strong background in infrastructure, DevOps, Docker, Terraform, and Kubernetes
  • Expertise across SQL and NoSQL systems
  • Daily experience with AI coding/review assistants
  • Track record of critically evaluating AI-assisted output
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a remote setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Natural mentoring ability
  • Team-first, inquisitive problem-solving mindset
  • Passion for continuous learning
  • Willingness to participate in rotational on-call duties
