About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support deployment, evaluation, and implementation of Lean at the Marmon Transportation Group
- Promote and facilitate continuous improvement methods, including Lean tools, root cause analysis, and waste reduction
- Improve safety, quality, performance, and cost metrics
- Work directly with and influence employees at all levels within the plant
- Identify process gaps and implement improvement activities targeting safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development
- Manage Lean transformation activities and projects at a plant
- Collaborate with automation teams to optimize processes and justify automation projects
- Facilitate Value Stream Maps and Kaizen/Impact Events through planning, execution, follow-up, and sustainment
- Facilitate accountability for action items with local teams
- Provide training, coaching, and mentoring on continuous improvement methods and Lean tools
- Coach process owners in engineering and Lean methods for operational excellence
- Establish performance measures and report progress against plant objectives
- Conduct site assessments with leadership and partner with process owners to achieve future-state results
- Participate in Management Review meetings
- Manage business travel plans, project prioritization, and communication with leadership
- Develop personal and plant competency plans for continuous improvement methods and Lean tools
Requirements
What you’ll need- Energy, enthusiasm, and initiative to create programs and drive outcomes while balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lead and influence others without formal control to achieve desired results
- Ability to travel 20-50% to other facilities/shops and relocate to different business units for different co-op terms
- Independent, self-starter with ability to build relationships and earn trust
- Ability to prioritize work based on potential impact, business needs, personal schedule, and coworkers’ schedules
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Smartsheets
- Previous experience with Lean/Automation, including jobs, internships, co-op assignments, class projects, or extracurricular groups (preferred)
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or other CAD packages (preferred)
- Preference to work multiple semesters (preferred)
- Desire/motivation to work 4-12 hours a week during the school year before and after the co-op with a multi-term commitment (preferred)
