About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, design, and test sterile and non-sterile packaging solutions for Acumed products during transport, storage, and surgery
  • Develop customized surgical tray systems supporting product reprocessing/re-sterilization
  • Develop sterile packaging that maintains sterile barriers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Lead technical activities from research and concept development through specifications, testing, validation, and implementation
  • Support existing packaging solutions and continuous improvement efforts
  • Lead engineering scope and deliverables for large or complex projects
  • Provide technical leadership, resolve recurring issues, and establish design and testing standards
  • Mentor engineers and staff across projects and technical specialty areas
  • Manage external vendors and partner with Manufacturing on new technologies and processes
  • Work with hospital staff, consultants, and field representatives to understand unmet needs and develop solutions
  • Communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders, including executives and sales partners
  • Develop complex test methods and approve test protocols/reports and Engineering Change Requests when delegated
  • Standardize testing/design processes and develop internal testing capabilities and equipment
  • Participate in technical review boards and industry standards activities
  • Serve as Packaging Engineering liaison to Business Units and support department KPIs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bio-Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent with 8 years of experience preferred; or 14 years of medical device development experience
  • Experience leading complex projects and mentoring engineers/interns
  • Highly proficient in medical device packaging design and sterile packaging testing
  • Highly proficient in testing methods for reprocessing reusable medical devices
  • Proficient in medical device packaging manufacturing processes and technical writing
  • Advanced knowledge of Operating Room and Central Sterile management techniques and products
  • Ability to independently develop technical solutions and intellectual property
  • Strong communication skills with cross-functional teams, HCPs, executives, and senior management
  • Ability to develop HCP relationships and independently review multiple projects
  • Ability to write technical product papers and provide budget input as needed
