About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the direction, delivery, and quality of a core product area from idea through launch, working directly with the founders
Hire and grow a small team of strong engineers
Design, write, and review code across the stack, spending roughly one-third to one-half of the time hands-on
Turn ambiguous product goals into executable technical plans
Collaborate with hardware, software, and design teams on products deployed to an IoT fleet of physical kiosks
Decide what to rebuild for scale and what to leave unchanged
Carry production ownership and participate in on-call responsibilities
Mentor engineers on the team and across the wider engineering group
Own integrations enabling kiosks to operate as point-of-sale devices, including kiosk software, backend services, and customer-facing features
Set technical direction and remain accountable for work quality and team member growth

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years building production software
3+ years managing engineers directly, including hiring, performance, and career growth
Track record of staying technical while managing, including recent code, design reviews, or personally owned architecture
B.S. or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
Excellent knowledge of one or more of Python, Node.js, C++, Go, or Java
Comfortable learning new languages, libraries, and frameworks when the solution calls for it
Experience building production-ready code used regularly by lots of people
Preferred: built a team from a few engineers into a functioning group
Preferred: experience in a fast-paced work environment, shipping quality code quickly and iterating
Preferred: comfortable deploying and managing cloud infrastructure
Preferred: worked on products with a hardware or edge-deployed component
Preferred: experience with memory-constrained and performant systems
Preferred: good knowledge of algorithms and data structures
