About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Function as a member of the patient care team under the direction of the Registered Nurse
  • Perform all aspects of the Patient Care Assistant role
  • Support the RN with clinical tasks, including blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings, using aseptic technique, and responding to medical emergencies
  • Utilize Heartsaver CPR and AED skills during medical emergency situations
  • Respond to the needs of patients and family members
  • Take an active role in the efficient operation of the unit
  • Assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Certified Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [CNA/PCT] credential required
  • Heartsaver CPR AED - American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or current Nursing Student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or equivalent med/surgical clinical rotation
  • Successful completion of an approved nursing assistant training program
  • Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language
  • Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements
  • Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Ability to enter and retrieve computerized information
  • Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift
  • Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work
  • Ability to manage stress related to patient care issues and changing hospital climate and personnel issues
